The popular augmented reality game Pokémon Go is now live in India after a local mobile carrier, Reliance Jio, partnered with game maker Niantic to bring the virtual pocket monsters to its market.

In accordance with the launch, Reliance Jio has made 3,000 of its retail locations and other affiliate stores into PokéStops and Gyms. Additionally, the carrier is allowing subscribers to play the game without accruing data charges until March 31, 2017, according to Guiding Tech.

Pokémon Go Safety Tips

With Pokémon Go being new to India (officially at least) police are warning users to use caution when playing the game outdoors. A good recommendation is to play the game with the augmented reality mode off when near roads or highways. This way users can discern which of their surrounding are real and which are not.

It is customary for Pokémon to appear in the middle of highways and other dangerous areas. Users shouldn’t stop in the middle of roads to catch Pokémon.

Users should also keep in mind that some places of worship have been designated as Pokéstops and to be respectful when playing game in these areas.

Other Pokémon Go Releases

Pokémon Go initially launched in July in the U.S., Australia and New Zealand with several other markets launched in subsequent weeks and months. Many users have been accessing the Pokémon Go APK to manually sideload the game in markets where it wasn’t yet available.

However, Pokémon Go is now also live in several Southeast Asian countries, including Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, in addition to India.

Users should be able to download and install Pokémon Go from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store in their respective countries.

Pokémon Go Update

In accordance with the holiday season, Niantic has released several special Pokémon, including a limited edition Pikachu and well as baby Pokémon, such as Pichu and Togepi. While many already familiar with the game have expressed disappointment in the update, those playing for the first time may find it exciting.
