New ‘Yu-Gi-Oh!’ Anime Series Coming Spring 2017

There have been five Yu-Gi-Oh! series based on the popular card game since the original anime debuted in 1998 and fans should be happy to know that a sixth will premiere in Spring 2017.

According to Cinema Today, via Anime News Network, the new Yu-Gi-Oh! series was announced at Jump Festa over the weekend, revealing with the character design of the brand new protagonist.

The name of the new Yu-Gi-Oh! protagonist is Yūsaku Fujiki, who is described as a student who hates to stand out at his school. Check out his character design below.

The theme for the new Yu-Gi-Oh! series is, "Let's take one step forward and try it!" however, Yūsaku is not one to try and stand out, but that all changes as Yūsaku starts meeting others through duels and starts moving forward.

Not much else is known about the upcoming anime, but there are images going around showing this new series will have duels on hoverboard-like vehicles. Is this a call back to Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds? We’ll learn more as we get into the new year.

One thing to look out for is any news about a new summoning condition or type of card. Starting with Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds, each new series introduced a brand new summoning method from Synchro to XYZ to Pendulum Summoning. Perhaps this new series will do the same.

The current Yu-Gi-Oh! series,Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V (which premiered in 2014) is still running in Japan and in America, but with the supposed Spring release of the sixth series, Arc-V will see the end of its run soon.

There’s also a brand new Yu-Gi-Oh! Movie that was made in 2016. It was released in Japan already, but the rest of the world will be getting The Dark Side of Dimensions in February of 2017.

So what do you think of the new Yu-Gi-Oh! Anime series? What kind of new summoning technique do you hope to see? Let us know in the comments section below.
