NBA 2K18 on Nintendo Switch may feature amiibo support. This information comes from the NBA 2K18 listing on the Japanese Nintendo site, by way of NeoGAF user Jonneh3003.

The above screenshot, posted by Jonneh3003, shows the Nintendo website listing amiibo support for NBA 2K18 under the “Corresponding function” section of the site. However, the site has since been updated to remove all mention of amiibo support. So what’s going on here?

There are two likely answers. The first is this is a simple goof by Nintendo. When making the page for NBA 2K18, amiibo support was accidentally included with the listing. The subsequent disappearance of amiibo references could actually just be Nintendo fixing an error.

The second, more interesting scenario is Nintendo accidentally mentioned amiibo support for NBA 2K18 before it planned to. This correction to the site would be a cover-up instead of a fix, meaning something is in the works and will get announced soon.

If it’s the first scenario, it’s just a goof and that’s that. If it’s the second, it opens up a whole world of speculating what the amiibo support could look like for the game. Commonly, amiibo are used to add small extras to games, like bonus costumes or unlocking hidden characters. If this is the case, amiibo support for NBA 2K18 could mean Mario and friends will be hopping on the court to play against the Golden State Warriors or the Cleveland Cavaliers.

If NBA 2K18 actually supports amiibos, it’s also possible 2K will create new amiibo figures just for the game. This could unlock alternate jerseys, classic teams or something I’m not even thinking of.

All of the above is pure speculation, and seeing as how Nintendo has updated its site to remove mention of amiibo, we don’t even know if the little figures will even be supported at all. If they are, we don’t know what specific figures will be used or if new ones will be created. To know for sure, we’ll have to wait for an announcement from Nintendo or 2K.

So what do you think? Are you interested in seeing NBA 2K18 support your Mario and Luigi amiibo? Would you be curious to see what amiibo for NBA 2K18 might look like? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

NBA 2K18 PS4 Review - Great Basketball With A Price
The action is fun and fluid, but the VC grind gets its grubby hands on everything and takes the shine off that noteworthy achievement.
  • Great basketball mechanics
  • Easy for new players to learn
  • MyGM's story content is a great starting point for the future.
  • The Neighborhood social hub feels empty and pointless
  • Microtransactions ruin what would otherwise be a fun experience
  • MyCareer story is a bit dull
