Patrick Rothfuss jumped headfirst into his Reddit AMA friday by tackling the draccus in room: Kingkiller Chronicles Book 3 release date. Everyone wants to know. Including, it seems, Patrick Rothfuss. In an exchange that shows an utterly sublime awareness of internet culture Rothfuss engaged in a conversation with himself in which he addressed the issue of the Kingkiller Chronicles book 3 release date:

So anyone hoping for a big reveal on Reddit will be sorely disappointed. However, today’s reticence can be tomorrow’s bagless cat. And if Rothfuss is telling us that he’ll make a big announcement about the Kingkiller Chronicles Book 3 (currently titled The Doors Of Stone) when the time is right, well, when can we expect the time to be right? In December 2014 he allegedly said that The Doors of Stone had "about a year and some change" until it was ready.

Based on what’s left of 2015, the right time to announce the Kingkiller Chronicles Book 3 release date still appears to be NerdCon Stories.

Patrick Rothfuss keeps a tour calendar. Currently he’s booked for San Diego Comic Con 2015 in July, and NerdCon Stories. Of the two, NerdCon Stories is quite a bit closer to his timeline for the completion of The Kingkiller Chronicles Book 3. It seems unlikely he’d go from “I don’t want to guess” in June to “SIKE! It’s February” in July. So keep an eye on Oct. 9 and 10 as our most likely date for learning more about the official release for The Kingkiller Chronicle Book 3, The Doors of Stone.

Also, if you’re a Kingkiller Chronicles fan, or just an admirer, it’s worth noting that Rothfuss uses his celebrity to support several worthwhile charities. He is the founder of Worldbuilders, a charity that works with Heifer International, First Book and Mercy Corps. If you like your charity to be of the immediate, I-might-win-a-prize variety, Rothfuss is also in the midst of a week-long fundraiser on IndieGoGo where people can buy t-shirts, books, games, or chances to win a cabin on JoCoCruise 2016.
