Melisandre is back. HBO

Melisandre does show up in Game of Thrones Season 7 and we know where she’s headed. HBO released a special teaser during its Game of Thrones panel at San Diego Comic Con.

The red priestess is out of the North and landed exactly where you think she would: Dragonstone. “I believe you have a role to play, as does another,” Melisandre tells Daenerys Targaryen.

The fact Dany is receiving an audience with Melisandre is huge. We’re curious if the red priestess will be open about her strained relationship with Jon Snow. By the end of Game of Thrones Season 6, Jon finds out Melisandre burned Stannis Baratheon’s daughter Shireen as a sacrifice to the red god, R'hllor. Melisandre is responsible for bringing Jon back to life after he was stabbed to death by some of Night’s Watch crew.

We doubt Dany would trust what Melisandre has to say. But Tyrion might advise Dany to have a meeting with her about the whitewalker threat. Afterall, Dragons exist so why would whitewalkers? If this is the case, Melisandre would be directly responsible for bringing Jon and Dany together.

A meeting between Dany and Jon also brings another obvious assumption to mind. Dany left Daario Naharis behind after taking Tyrion’s counsel. Tyrion told Dany she would likely need to marry to form alliances. Daario’s presence would do her no good in the fight for the Iron Throne. And who so happens to be the King of the North? Oh yeah, Jon. Dany will probably agree to help Jon with the whitewalker threats if he helps her take King’s Landing.

“The Mad King’s daughter will destroy the realm. We must stand together if we hope to stop her,” Cersei says in the Game of Thrones Comic teaser. Jon will probably realize at some point this season he’ll have to take care of the Cersei threat even with the Night’s King army quickly approaching.

Jon doesn’t have any desire to sit on the Iron Throne, but he may have no choice but to take Dany up on the offer. Do we think both Dany and Jon will make it to the end of Game of Thrones? Not at all. The ending would be too neat. But combining the Stark and Targaryen forces would be enough to take out Cersei. It will probably happen after Daenerys loses a battle against Euron Greyjoy, who’s definitely coming for her head.
