‘The Flash,’ ‘Arrow,’ ‘Supergirl,’ ‘Legends’: DCTV Week In Review

The DC TV lineup for Fall 2016

This week on DCTV, Supergirl’s adopted father may actually be Cyborg Superman. Team Flash protected Central City from Grodd, but now Savitar is after Kid Flash. Green Arrow didn’t get impeached as Mayor, but there’s a warrant out for his arrest. We also found out Prometheus’ true identity.

Here’s a rundown of this week’s events:

Supergirl Season 2 episode 14, “Homecoming”

Rating B+

Loved the Jeremiah Danvers twist, but it’s a little hard to believe Martian Manhunter got his ass whooped with one punch to the face. Supergirl quickly using her heat vision to build a new train track moments before the train passed by was the most exciting scene of the episode. Lillian’s Luthor’s final line suggested Danvers may be Cyborg Superman, not Hank Henshaw. And that huge spaceship… what the hell is that for? All-around solid episode.

Recap

Kara wakes up before Mon-El and brings him flowers. They get to the DEO, then Kara and Martian Manhunter go on a mission where they end up coincidentally rescuing Jeremiah Danvers. Mon-El tells Kara it’s fishy that after 15 years hidden in CADMUS, Jeremiah just so happened to appear amid the threat of a bomb that CADMUS designed using the energy they forced Supergirl to give them from her heat vision. Everyone gets pissy at Mon-El for thinking that and they all host a party for Jeremiah's return. Jeremiah kicks Mon-El out and tells him he knows his secret, presumably that he’s the Prince of Daxam.

Mon-El meets Winn at a bar and asks for help to spy on Jeremiah at the DEO. Winn snoops, and catches Jeremiah breaking into the DEO mainframe. Jeremiah avoids further questioning after using some lame excuse and J’onn J’onzz gives him back his job at the DEO. After the bomb appears on Winn’s satellite, the team goes on a mission to find CADMUS’ bomb, but arrive at an empty warehouse. J’onn J’onzz realizes Jeremiah is acting suspicious and tries to read his mind, but can’t. He follows Jeremiah down to the control room where he discovers Jeremiah has been enhanced, like Hank Henshaw. Jeremiah knocks out Martian Manhunter with his super-hand, and escapes with a list of all aliens in National City.

Thankfully, Winn thought ahead and put a tracker on Jeremiah. They catch up with him, but must go up against Lillian Luthor and Hank Henshaw. CADMUS traps Supergirl by blowing up the train tracks, forcing her to save the passengers instead. Alex gets close enough to Jeremiah to shoot him with her special weapon, but when it comes down to it, she can’t do it. Meanwhile, Lillian Luthor and Jeremiah are planning to use some huge spaceship tucked away in CADMUS. “Soon, the Earth will be free forever,” Luthor says.

ClIFFHANGER: Is Jeremiah Danvers the real Cyborg Superman? Until now, we thought Hank Henshaw was Cyborg Superman (though he’s never been called that in the series). But in the trailer for “Exodus” next week, Lillian Luthor puts her hand on Jeremiah's shoulder and says, “You are the only Superman we need.”

The Flash Season 3 episode 14, "Attack on Central City."

Rating A-

There was so much anticipation for an awesome fight scene with Jesse Quick, The Flash and Kid Flash that never came to fruition. Still, the Grodd vs. Solovar CGI battle was very well done. Loved when Solovar pounded his chest at the end and the human-like definition on his face. Seeing Accelerated Man was my personal favorite moment, though it only lasted a second. The landscape of Earth-19 had a magical feeling to it and watching Gypsy and Vibe interact is always a highlight of the episode.

Recap

Barry and the team think they are in the clear with Grodd, until Gypsy suddenly appears through a breach and attacks them in STAR Labs. But the last Gypsy remembers, she was on Earth-2 hunting down a fugitive. Cisco quickly realizes Grodd mind controlled her, using her to open a breach to Earth-1 with his gorilla army. Cisco vibes the location of Grodd’s attack on Central City, but they don’t find him in time because Grodd mind controls Joe to shoot himself. Thankfully, The Flash moves him out of the way in time before the bullet pushes through his temple.

Back at STAR Labs, Harry and Cisco put a magnet helmet on Joe to read Grodd’s memories, which allows him to draw a picture of the human Grodd is disguised as, an air force general in control of the military’s nuclear missiles. Barry heads to the military base and finds missiles ready to detonate on Central City. The only way Team Flash could think of to stop it was for Barry to try every combination possible. As soon as he enters the correct combination, Grodd and his army begin their attack. Harry reminds the team “there is always another way” after Barry tells Iris he intends to kill Grodd.

This speedster looks an awful lot like Accelerated Man from the comics.

Vibe travels to a snowy, beautiful Earth-19 to beg Gypsy for help. She eventually agrees because she has feelings for him, and they show up in Central City with Solovar just as Kid Flash, The Flash and Jesse Quick can’t take much more. Solovar defeats Grodd and claims Gorilla City’s throne. Gypsy vibes all the gorillas back to Gorilla City, except for Grodd, who is in ARGUS custody. Oh, and Barry and Iris are getting married. Gypsy gives Cisco and kiss and tells him he’ll “never be able to handle her.”

EASTER EGG: We get a quick cameo from Earth-19’s version of Flash, called Accelerated Man (played by Sean Poague). His costume is absolutely amazing. A white scarf covers almost all of his face and he’s got a retro goggles. H.R. Wells described a war on Earth-19 called ‘World War M’ earlier this season. He said it was organized by himself and The Flash on his Earth. Maybe that’s who he was speaking of.

CLIFFHANGER: Wally goes on a Big Belly run for Jesse, but he has a delusion of Savitar. What does Savitar need Kid Flash for?

Arrow Season 5 episode 15, "Fighting Fire With Fire"

Rating A+

Best episode of Arrow in a while, with all the big reveals. Prometheus vs. Vigilante was an awesome fight to watch and the Adrian Chase twist may have been the best villain reveal in the history of the series. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Oliver will be revealing his true identity to the citizens of Star City anytime soon, considering he has a warrant out for the murder of Detective Malone. Felicity joining Helix is an exciting new story arc and Susan Williams’ genuine intentions are a relief… for now.

Recap

Adrian Chase steps down as district attorney to take some of the spotlight off Oliver and represent him in the impeachment trials. They get off to a terrible start after multiple witnesses come to the stand making incriminating statements toward Oliver and Adrian. Oliver’s day only gets worse when The Vigilante attacks his limo. Thankfully, the police prevent him from finishing the job but we learn he has some sort of enhanced vision in his suit. Thea plots to blackmail a councilperson to sway the trial vote using the information Felicity got from Helix.

Dinah Drake finds a small piece of Vigilante’s visor at the crime scene and calls it into Overwatch. As she leaves the scene, Adrian Chase approaches her and pretty much demands she give him the evidence. Then, Vigilante hits the streets but Prometheus interrupts him. Prometheus pushes him off a roof, takes his own mask off and reveals himself as Adrian Chase.

Wild Dog, Spartan, Mr. Terrific suit up to find Vigilante. When they do, he’s set up to assassinate Oliver at the Mayor’s press conference. Mr. Terrific's new ‘T-Spheres’ save them, but they still don't find out who Vigilante is. Oliver blames everything on Green Arrow at the press conference, saying he’s a cop killer and has failed the city. He’s very convincing and is not impeached as a result. In the flashbacks, Anatoly beats Gregor in a vote to become the leader of the Bratva by exposing his backdoor dealings with Kovar.

Susan Williams gets her job back and it’s kind of an unspoken acknowledgement that she knows Oliver is the Green Arrow, but she agrees not to expose him. Curtis’ husband, Paul, files for a divorce. Felicity joins Helix. Thea turns in her resignation. The episode ends with Adrian Chase forcefully confronting Susan williams about an exclusive story that is “life or death.”

CLIFFHANGER: If Adrian Chase is Prometheus, who is Vigilante? Talia al Ghul says Prometheus is a man who “calls himself Adrian Chase” in the next episode promo. What else does she know about Prometheus?
