There have been social media mentions of American Horror Story: Apocalypse as early as December 2015. However, it appears the idea may stem from a particular source, namely the fact that AHS star Evan Peters also plays a role in X-Men Apocalypse.

The actor, who starred in American Horror Story: Hotel and is confirmed for a role in Season 6, has been talking to the press about television and movie roles since late last year. Most recently, Peters did an interview on the YouTube channel GoldDerby , where he talked about both of his most recent acting jobs. It is possible that somewhere the television show and the movie got meshed into one. But there is a good chance the Apocalypse theme for American Horror Story Season 6 is false.

The AHS Season 6 theme was expected to be announced June 13; however, Twentieth Century Fox Television and FX decided to cancel the FYC Emmy Event in the wake of the shooting in Orlando June 12, according to Deadline . There is no word on whether the event will be rescheduled.

If Not 'Apocalypse' Then What?

Hope isn’t completely lost for a theme like American Horror Story: Apocalypse. Consider that in 2014, prior to the launch of American Horror Story: Freak Show, there were rumors surrounding a Circus or Carnival theme . Fans expressed a similar level of excitement and created and shared fan art for the proposed themes, and the actual theme turned out to be pretty close.

There have been few details shared about the upcoming Season 6. So far, executive producer Ryan Murphy has only stated he has considered having two themes within one season, and that he would like to explore a trope related to children. Early rumors suggesting a Slenderman theme were quickly refuted. Another suggestion was that Season 6 might revolve around the Thacher school, which was introduced in Hotel. None of these ideas have been confirmed.

Fans have likely been especially anxious about the theme of American Horror Story Season 6 since the profile pictures and cover photos of several AHS social media pages went black Thursday. Many expect the season’s theme may announced soon, but there has been no word from the showrunners. Actors currently confirmed for American Horror Story Season 6, including Lady Gaga, Angela Bassett, Denis O’Hare, Evan Peters, Leslie Jordan and Matt Bomer, all insist they don’t know the theme of the upcoming anthology.
