Silent Hills P.T. Cancellation Killed Guillermo Del Torro's Dream To Make Horror Video Game

Director Guillermo del Toro doesn’t want to make video games anymore and we don’t blame him.

Del Toro’s Silent Hills P.T. was an unfortunate causality of game designer Hideo Kojima and Konami’s decision to dissolve their partnership. Shortly after Silent Hills P.T. was cancelled, del Toro confirmed he was working with Kojima on another horror video game that wasn’t Silent Hills P.T. Well, it seems that project has dissolved as well according to del Toro’s recent comments to Shack News.

“I have proven to be the albatross of video games,” del Toro told Shack News. “I joined THQ, and THQ goes broke. I join Kojima, and Kojima leaves Konami. I have decided, in order not to destroy anyone else’s life, I have decided I will never again get involved in video games. Otherwise, I’ll join someone and his house will explode, or something."

Del Toro added he would consider developing games based off his work, but his dream of being a part of the process is dead. To make things worse, Silent Hills P.T. had potential to be an amazing horror game starring The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus.

Del Toro spoke highly of Silent Hills P.T. . even after Kojima’s partnership with Konami dissolved. Del Toro spoke about some of the ideas for the game during an interview with IGN back in July.

"We were in the planning stages, and it’s a shame it’s not going to happen," del Toro said. "We were talking about really pushing the boundaries of the new consoles, and making the game really mess with your head. One of the great moments in Metal Gear [Solid] was Psycho Mantis. The idea that a game can actually interact with you, and stuff like that."

Those fortunate enough to have downloaded the Silent Hills P.T. demo for the PS4 still play the game and continue to find new scares in every play-through. Too bad Silent Hills P.T. will never happen now.
