Ubisoft is doubling down on its aim to make every map in Rainbow Six Siege balanced and competitive. Due to that decision, the company has confirmed that we will not receive any new map in Year 5. All four seasons will give us a rework of previous maps.

Oregon is the first map to be reworked in Year 5 and will launch with Season 1, Void Edge. The second map to be reworked will be the House. House is one of the oldest maps, and is the smallest map in the game. It is a good entry-level map for newcomer players as it is easy to remember and gives you the basic idea of how destruction works in the game. It’s also my personal favorite goto map for a quick t-hunt. As of now, it is only available for Casual playlist, as developers think it is not balanced enough for competitive play.

“We didn’t want to lose too much of [House], but it really was too small,” Alex Karpazis, Art Director on Rainbow Six Siege, said. This information comes courtesy of IGN. “So we wanted to grow it a little bit more, provide more mobility, but still have it as a great introduction map for new players”. The rework isn’t that drastic as it was in Hereford Base. The map is still small and will be available for casual only. You can see the changes made on the map in the video above.

Season 3 and 4 will bring reworks of Skyscraper and Chalet, although the changes to these maps are unknown as of right now. Lead Game Designer Jean-Baptiste Halle explained why they decided to bring rework of old maps instead of giving new maps. “We’ve observed that the enthusiasm from our player base when they get a rework, when they see that the problematic parts have been fixed or changed, that has a better level of success.” he said. “You don’t have to learn the map from the ground up, You’re still familiar, but it’s also fresh and new.”

So what do you think? Are you excited about these reworks? Which other map do you want to see reworked? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
