PlayStation Neo Release Date Rumor: Next Sony Console To Arrive In 2016, One Full Year Ahead Of Xbox 'Scorpio'

The PlayStation NEO has been confirmed! Sony

Sony did not announce its anticipated PlayStation Neo console at E3 2016 this month, leading many industry observers to doubt whether the company will be prepared to launch the PS VR-ready device by the end of the year. Apparently, new reports from Digital Foundry at EuroGamer confirm a 2016 release date.

“Several sources have indicated to me that PlayStation Neo launches this year, despite its E3 no-show,” stated Digital Foundry.

The state of the PlayStation Neo is curious. Although Sony has confirmed that a Neo console is in the works, the company has yet to make a formal announcement for the high-performance gaming console. What's more, Sony announced the pricing and release date of its new PlayStation VR headset (starting at $399 on Oct. 13), which will presumably pair with the PlayStation Neo. Surely Sony wouldn't offer the VR headset without the uprated console to play it on.

Of course, one simply cannot avoid mentioning Xbox's equally intriguing Project Scorpio. According to Microsoft's presentation at E3, PlayStation's future rival console is slated to arrive during the 2017 holiday season, which will place Sony a full year ahead of the next Xbox if sources are correct.
