Nintendo has announced that the sequel to the highly popular Yo-Kai Watch will be released on Sept. 30. Yo-Kai Watch 2 takes the concept of the Yo-Kai Watch world and ups the ante with a brand new story, time travel and even more Yo-kai to befriend.

“After being such a massive sensation in Japan, it’s great to see the U.S. start to embrace the mischievous and lovable Yo-kai,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing in a press release. “We’re excited to continue bringing fun Yo-kai experiences stateside this year.”

Level-5 returns to handle the Yo-Kai Watch sequel as the RPG elements get deeper and the story gets zanier. In addition, Yo-Kai Watch 2 will actually be split into two versions -- similar to Pokemon -- and both versions will give players access to version-exclusive rare Yo-kai. Yo-Kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits and Yo-Kai Watch 2: Fleshy Souls will feature rare Yo-kai that can only be found in their respective games.

There are actually three versions of Yo-Kai Watch 2 that were released in Japan so perhaps the third version will see a Western release after the first two.

If you’re curious as to what the new Yo-kai in Yo-Kai Watch 2 look like you should be playing Yo-Kai Watch Wibble Wobble on your mobile device. This free-to-play puzzle game has some of the Yo-kai from the upcoming sequel and you can get to know them before the official release in September.

Hasbro will be developing more toys for the launch of Yo-Kai Watch 2 , including a new Yo-kai Watch that matches Nate’s watch in the anime. And speaking of the anime, Disney XD has gained the rights to the second season and will begin airing it this summer.
