‘And now your wait begins.’

With those words, Xbox has teased its millions of fans around the world. A few hours ago, Microsoft’s console division tweeted out a short video that is ambiguous about what it truly is.

A closer look at the image at the very end would suggest that it is the Targaryen sigil, one of the Houses in the cultural phenomenon that is the Game of Thrones series. The video starts out with blazing fire, which is of course rather symbolic, as the Targaryen words are “Fire and blood.” The words that accompany it are equally ambiguous as well, as this means that we will get to see something Game of Thrones-related in the near future from Xbox.

Speculation time, I guess. The two things most people are agreeing on what this tweet could mean is either a new Game of Thrones title, possibly exclusive to Xbox, or a custom Xbox One console. The latter would’ve made less sense in any other time, but a few days ago we saw a collaboration between Xbox and Warner Bros. Pictures as the two companies brought Godzilla to the console. This resulted in four custom-made Xbox One X consoles, all bearing a Kaiju-inspired design to be given away to four very lucky people. This collaboration was primarily made to promote the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters movie, set to release at the end of May.

Of course, there is also some weight to it being a new Game of Thrones video game. This was kicked off by a report surfacing last March that the creator of Game of Thrones, George R.R. Martin, is teaming up with FromSoftware, the acclaimed developer of the Souls series, for a new video game title. What’s more, the game is reportedly set in an open-world setting that is filled with different kingdoms (much like the Seven Kingdoms of Game of Thrones) and allows players to interact with all of them in various ways. Martin is reportedly involved in making the game’s larger narrative and world-building, of which he specializes on.

Whatever the case may be, it’s always important to take everything with a grain of salt. Until then, stay tuned for more developments regarding this story.
