The X-Men franchise has seen better days, and it seems Fox is willing to reboot its superhero franchise if new reports are to be believed.

According to The Hollywood Reporter , the fact that Hugh Jackman won’t be playing Wolverine after 2017’s Logan, Tim Miller leaving Deadpool 2 and the fact that X-Men: Apocalypse underperformed with critics and the box office has Fox considering reconfiguring its flagship series and the X-men movie universe.

Here’s an excerpt from THR’s report:

“Elsewhere, the reset button has been pressed. Sources say the flagship series will be reconfigured, with Simon Kinberg, overseer of the franchise as producer and writer, working on a new script. Singer, who directed four X-Men movies, will not be returning, according to insiders, but the script is being written with Lawrence, Fassbender and McAvoy optimistically in mind.”

However, even if Fox decides to continue the track the current X-men movies are heading they may be without their top three talents as all will be looking for large paychecks. Despite its flaws, Apocalypse introduced younger mutants that can theoretically take the reigns from the old guard and guide the X-Men franchise into a new era.

But we will see which direction Fox goes in, but with Marvel Studios not slowing down with their superhero content it will behoove the company to try and reinvigorate the franchise and THR points to New Mutants as a possible saving grace for the movie franchise.
