A spiritual successor to X-COM, called Phoenix Point, is currently raising money on crowdfunding platform Fig. The project seeks to raise $500,000 over the next 43 days, and is already almost half-way to the goal.

Phoenix Point is being developed by Snapshot Games, which includes veteran game designer Julian Gollop, a designer on the original X-COM games. The project will also include John Broomhall, the composer of the original X-COM games, as well as several other veteran game developers from big-name studios.

Phoenix Point, as you would guess from its pedigree, seems to be very similar to X-COM games. It is a strategy game with turn-based mechanics and an evil alien invasion to fight off. Once things get terrible, the world calls on the Phoenix Project, a worldwide organization dedicated to keeping humanity safe. Players will control one cell of the Phoenix Project, and must get back in contact with the other cells to figure out what exactly is going on.

If you want to learn more about of the story and world found in Phoenix Point, be sure to check out the Fig campaign. The page details some of the history of the universe, talks more about the alien threat you’ll fight off and gives glimpses into gameplay features such as boss battles, weapons and armor and squad management.

Phoenix Point will come to PC, Mac and Linux in late 2018. To secure your copy as early as possible, a $25 contribution to the Fig campaign will secure you a download code of the final game. You’ll have to act fast though, because this $25 price is a limited-time offer. Once all the early offers have been taken, it’ll cost $30 to get a digital copy.

Of course, you can give much more money to the project if you want, with backing levels going all the way to $1,500. At that level, you get a figurine, your name in the credits, special in-game items and much more. All contributions will also get a free Steam key for Snapshot Games’ first release, Chaos Reborn.

So what do you think? Are you excited to try out Phoenix Point for yourself? Will you wait until the game releases to buy a copy? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
