It’s finally time to say goodbye to everyone’s favorite Australian playing a Canadian. According to Den of Geek, Wolverine 3 will be Hugh Jackman’s last movie as the adamantium-clawed berserker. The movie will be R-rated, and based on the Old Man Logan comic book story.

Mark Millar, who wrote the original comic book versions of Kick Ass, Wanted and The Secret Service, penned the Old Man Logan arc. The story takes place years from now in an apocalyptic wasteland controlled by different Marvel characters. As the story opens, Wolverine has vowed to never use violence again, until Hawkeye enlists his help in rescuing his daughter (who happens to be Spider-Girl.) The story will likely be retooled for the big screen, since many of the characters, like Hawkeye and Hulk, are now owned by Disney.

Deadpool’s odd creation and blockbuster release may impact how the film takes shape. In July 2015, Jackman asked his Twitter followers what they would want from the next Wolverine movie. They recommended Old Man Logan, a departure from the “Weapon X” storylines audiences have seen before. Rumors have suggested that Wolverine 3 would be be R-rated for a while, though the Merc with a Mouth’s success isn’t hurting.

Having R-rated comic book movies just makes sense. Ever since Frank Miller redefined the super hero genre in the 1980s, comics have been darker and grittier than what is often portrayed on screen. Wolverine is a blood-thirsty monster with knives attached to his hands; his movies should be gory extravaganzas. Before Deadpool, the only R-rated Marvel movie was Blade, a movie almost as forgotten as its main star, Wesley Snipes. If studios start giving the fans what they want, there’s no limit to what Wolverine 3 can accomplish.
