Wolverine 3 will be Hugh Jackman’s last time popping the claws. Producer Simon Kinberg confirmed to Collider the filming has already started, which doesn't come as a surprise seeing it’s due in theaters March 3, 2017. Even more exciting, the untitled film is definitely going to be R-rated. Based on the description Kinberg gave at an X-Men: Apocalypse press event, get ready to witness a side of Wolverine you’ve never seen before.

“It’s a very radical, bold, different Wolverine than you’ve ever seen in any of these movies,” Kinberg said.

R-rated Wolverine isn’t a new prospect. 2013’s The Wolverine was shot in PG-13 and R, and 20th Century Fox went with the former.

“It takes place in the future...and it is an R-rated movie. It’s violent, it’s kind of like a western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film,” he added.

Boyd Holbrook, who played DEA agent Steve Murphy in the hit Netflix series Narcos , will star as the main baddie in Wolverine 3 . Deadline describes his character as a “relentless, calculating and intense head of security for a global enterprise.”

As for the rest of the Wolverine 3 cast, details are sparse. Richard E. Grant ( Jekyll & Hyde ) will play a villainous mad-scientist type character. The Office co-creator Stephen Merchant has also joined the cast, but it’s unclear in what capacity. The same goes for Elise Neal and Eriq LaSalle. Fans expect Patrick Stewart to reprise his role as Professor X, but Kinberg wouldn't speak on the truth behind the rumors.

Wolverine 3 is expected to follow the “Old Man Logan” arc. Mark Millar and Steve McNiven’s 2008-2009 story is set more than 50 years in the future, in a world where heroes don’t exist and supervillains rule. After an army of supervillains attacks the X-Mansion, Wolverine slaughters them all to protect the younger mutants. Come to find out, it was all an illusion created by Mysterio. The people he killed weren't the bad guys, they were the very mutants he swore to protect. He throws away his old ‘Wolverine’ persona and wanders across the land trying to deal with the consequences of his actions. In this dystopian society, he refuses to use his claws until the very end when he decides to seek vengeance.
