Some might even say Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was doomed since day one. Since the first official Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare reveal trailer released in May, it has received more than 3.3 million dislikes on YouTube. The feedback was difficult to swallow, but the team at Infinity Ward were optimistic that fans would eventually "get" the new gameplay concepts the developer tried to achieve in CoD:IW. Sadly, that is not the case.

According to figures from Eurogamer earlier this week, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare launch sales were down by 48.5 percent in the UK compared to Call of Duty: Black Ops III last year. While Infinite Warfare earned a respectable Metacritic score of 79, a dismal 3.3 user score from a total of 828 ratings.

Still, there are more variables that explain the severe plummet in UK sales than game reviews alone – Eurogamer also noted that Infinite Warfare is a brand-new sub-title for the franchise, which may result in tentative and cautious gamers that may not embrace the new series right away. What's more, Infinite Warfare is Call of Duty's first strictly current-gen title without PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 editions that Black Ops III enjoyed.

Still, Eurogamer notes even if we account for the absence of PS3 and Xbox 360, Infinite Warfare sales are still 43.6 percent down from the Black Ops III launch.

Still, a 48.5 percent drop in launch sales didn't stop Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare to still become UK's second biggest game title launch of the year, behind FIFA 17, which goes to show the immense following the franchise still has.
