The Defenders is the next series in the Marvel-Netflix line to head into production. Though it’s expected to debut in 2017, it’s unclear if The Defenders will come before or after The Punisher, which also has a confirmed 2017 release date. Both series are currently filming in New York. While we’ve already had a few looks of a scruffy Jon Bernthal in Brooklyn, we finally have our first look at Krysten Ritter in character as Jessica Jones on The Defenders set.

A Twitter user also reports the series is currently filming at The Metro Diner on 100th and Broadway under the codename ‘Group Therapy.’ These set leaks come after a Defenders teaser and the official casting announcements for Karen Page and Misty Knight, played by Deborah Ann Woll and Simone Missick of Daredevil and Luke Cage, respectively.

“Those who surround us define us,” is displayed at the end of the short teaser. The sentiment is reminiscent of the last Defenders teaser where Stick, Daredevil’s childhood mentor, jokes about the four heroes being able to save New York. “You think the four of you can save New York? You can’t even save yourselves,” he says.
Stick certainly has a valid point there. As far as we know, Luke Cage is back behind bars. Jessica Jones is recovering from Kilgrave. Daredevil still has The Hand to deal with and Elektra is about to be resurrected to fulfill her destiny as The Black Sky. Iron Fist is currently running around New York barefoot… this team up isn’t looking too promising so far. However, it has been revealed The Hand is also the villain in Iron Fist, so it looks like Danny Rand could clean up what Daredevil started. Possibly even a crossover there?
Sigourney Weaver was announced as The Defenders villain at New York Comic Con. It’s probably safe to assume Rosario Dawson will also reprise her role as Claire Temple. With 2017 quickly approaching, stay tuned for a full Defenders trailer in the coming months.
UPDATE: Foggy Nelson, Jeri Hogarth and Malcom (Jessica Jones' neighbor) have also joined The Defenders cast.
