Steven Yeun is mourning the loss of Glenn on The Walking Dead just like the rest of us, minus the tears. He’s not quite there yet.
Yeun explained to Entertainment Weekly it’ll be a while before he fully processes leaving The Walking Dead production. Yeun knew there was a definite endgame for his character Glenn from the start, but thinks it’ll be a while before he has a emotional breakdown.
“This is something that will hit me maybe a couple of months from now,” Yeun told EW. “Or maybe it’ll hit me next year. Maybe it’ll be when I’m 45 and all of a sudden I’m just crying in my kitchen and I can’t explain why. At that point, it was beautiful in that it was so easy for me to get emotional. Personally, for me, I’m not one to cry all the time. I don’t cry much in real life. And when you do not cry in real life, the moments that you do cry are very, very fulfilling and cathartic.”
Yeun went on to tell EW leaving the show was a “really confusing time” for him. He was relieved to move on with his life, but sad he wouldn’t be working with The Walking Dead cast and crew.
At least doesn’t have to mourn alone. Michael Cudlitz, who plays Abraham on the show, also had to say goodbye to his character. Cudlitz told Entertainment Tonight he and Yeun had known the deaths were coming for about a year and a half prior to the premiere. Cudlitz wanted his character to have a memorable exit from the show, but still isn’t ready to let go of Abraham. That’s why he’s still rocking the red hair and mustache.
"I feel like it's a little respectful to the fans," Cudlitz told ET, refering to keeping Abraham’s signature look. "We're going to leave [the mustache] for a moment so that no one feels like I'm in such a rush to leave this character. It's like a mourning process that we all go through."
We say keep the mustache, Cudlitz! You look good with one. The Walking Dead Season 7 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on AMC.
