Rick won’t go guns blazing at Negan this time around in The Walking Dead Season 7. No, Rick will be much more calculating and smart since he has much more to lose.

The Walking Dead Producer Gale Anne Hurd recently spoke to Digital Spy about Rick getting his groove back. Are we going to see Rick biting people’s necks to save his loved ones? If necessary, hell yes. But we won’t see Rick go full-on Shane and aggressively attack Negan like he did in the outposts. No killing people in their sleep. Negan knows more about Rick ; he’s at a disadvantage and knows it.

"Rick and the gang have found their mojo again and they are going to work on rising up against Negan, and doing it right this time," Hurd told Digital Spy. "As we saw last season, they underestimated his strength and just how nefarious a leader he was. They're not going to do that again."

Don’t expect Rick to be entirely confident in his leadership capabilities right away. After reading The Walking Dead Season 7B synopsis, we wouldn’t be surprised if Rick spent a lot of time consulting with others before he even thinks about declaring war. Negan is a smart opponent and knows he has the resources to take down another community.

"Rick's group will find out yet again that the world isn't what they thought it was. It's much bigger than anything they've seen so far,” the official synopsis reads. “While they have a singular purpose--to defeat Negan--it won't come easy. More importantly, victory will require more than Alexandria. They need the numbers of the Kingdom and the Hilltop, but, similar to how Rick felt, Ezekiel (Khary Payton) and Gregory (Xander Berkeley) do not want bloodshed. To convince them otherwise will take more than speeches. The lengths Rick and the group will have to go to in order to find weapons, food and new fighters is nothing short of remarkable.”

What’s remarkable is how many characters have been able to survive their encounters with Negan. Daryl should’ve been long dead, Rosita should’ve been shot in the head for missing her one shot to kill Negan and Carl has more lives than a cat. Do you guys remember Rick’s epic snot bubble when he had to decide whether he would chop off Carl’s arm or let him die? Yeah, Carl’s been through enough. Let the kid be a kid for a minute. He just had his first date and kiss. Leave Carl alone!

The Walking Dead Season 7 returns this February to AMC.
