An unannounced Suicide Squad game in the works at WB Montreal has already been cancelled. The studio will instead shift focus to a new Batman game.

This news comes from sources who have spoken to Kotaku. The Suicide Squad game was said to have been in development for around two years, and failed to impress management at Warner Bros. The game was said to have been a co-op experience starring the group of anti-heros from the poorly received blockbuster of the same name.

The sources then go on to confirm WB Montreal is instead working on a Batman game that will star Damian Wayne, the fifth person to act as Robin in the Batman universe. Not much is known about this Batman game outside of rumors suggesting it will have the Nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor and Penguin in it, but WB Montreal has experience with Arkham Origins, the prequel to the Arkham trilogy of games from Rocksteady.

Kotaku mentions that the new Batman game was likely to have been announced this month, but WB Montreal has recently gone through some major changes in staff. Both the studio head and executive producer left earlier this year, and a new studio head was hired in November. The new studio head, Stéphane Roy, previously was an executive producer for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

As for when we will hear about the Batman game, it’s possible we’ll be getting something soon. Given the shake-ups at the studio and other developmental troubles, I’d wager this reveal will be pushed back into 2017 with a release in 2018 or possibly even later.

So what do you think? Are you interested in a new Batman game without Bruce Wayne as the main character? Would you have liked to see a Suicide Squad game or are you happy to see that get the axe? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
