In the latest Destiny: The Taken King news Bungie just announced that the first big Destiny event of 2016 will begin Feb. 9 but the newly-revealed Crimson Days festivities will likely come as a major disappointment to anyone bored by the handful of similar in-game events we’ve seen since the launch of Destiny: The Taken King.

Word of the next Destiny event comes courtesy of the Bungie blog, like most major announcements for the multiplayer shooter, but anyone who’s stuck with Destiny over the last few months likely already has a pretty good idea of what to expect from Crimson Days. The Valentine’s Day festivities will begin Feb. 9 and continue for seven days, bringing with them a new set of decorations for the Tower. We can only assume there will be special Crimson Days-themed shaders and badges to earn, too.

The biggest change in Crimson Days, from Bungie’s usual holiday events, is the introduction of a new Crucible mode called Crimson Doubles. As you might have guessed, Crimson Doubles will see teams of two compete against one another in a new match type that Bungie says “only battle-tested star-crossed lovers will appreciate.” Teams who perform well will earn special Crimson Days loot; however, we don’t currently have any details on what form those prizes will take. More information on Destiny’s newest Crucible mode will apparently be revealed in next week’s Weekly Update column.

In the interim, Bungie says fans can look forward to the return of the Iron Banner in the near future. The on-again, off-again Crucible event will return on Jan. 26, giving fans another week to earn rewards from the Iron Banner before Lord Saladin disappears again on Feb. 2.
