The launch trailer for SteamWorld Dig 2 is out this week, celebrating the PC and Switch releases of Image & Form’s first proper SteamWorld Dig sequel. It’s the first official SWD2 marketing video to put all of the second game’s improvements, from expanded upgrade lists to a much larger game world, on full display.

Early reviews for SteamWorld Dig 2 have been mostly positive. Only a handful of outlets have their impressions up, so far, but the vast majority of those seem to enjoy the game. Which isn’t that much of a surprise, to be honest. We got to spend some hands-on time with the game earlier this month, during Nintendo’s annual Nindies@Night event in Seattle, and came away impressed with the Image & Form’s work on the SteamWorld Dig sequel.

The sequel doesn’t pick up exactly where the first game left off, but the two stories do connect. Our new heroine, Dorothy, is searching for the first game’s protagonist (Rusty). Fans of the first SWD will remember her as a resident of Tumbleton, which is larger and more populous in the SteamWorld Dig sequel. But everything else in SWD2, from the list of character skills to the studio’s meticulously designed stages that replace the first game’s procedurally-generated worlds, will be unique to the sequel. There are new enemy units. More bosses. Hidden treasure. And way more robots to meet than we saw in the first game.

For an early look at SteamWorld Dig 2, take a few minutes to watch the launch trailer embedded at the top of the page. Then head down to the comments and let us know which platform you plan to explore SteamWorld Dig 2 on when the game debuts later this month.

SteamWorld Dig 2 is in development for PC, PS4, Vita and Switch. The game heads to Nintendo’s hybrid console today (Sept. 21), makes the jump to PC tomorrow and hits PS4/Vita on Sept. 26.
