Star Wars Battlefront 2 has released a new trailer, focusing on the game’s single-player campaign. Set in the period between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, Star Wars Battlefront 2 will show us what happens to the Empire after Palpatine has been found dead.

The trailer opens up with the Emperor talking to Commander Iden Versio, the main character of Battlefront 2’s campaign. As you would expect, he’s going on about how the Rebellion needs to be stamped out. However, as we know from the Star Wars movies, the Emperor dies at the hands of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader and the Death Star II is destroyed.

The Force Awakens reveals that his death doesn’t end the Empire. Instead, it creates the First Order, iconography of which appears on Versio’s outfit in the trailer. This means players will actually be the “bad guys” fighting to kill off the Resistance. This is certainly an interesting take on the Star Wars universe, and shows a transitional era not yet seen in games, movies or shows.

The footage from the trailer is labeled as using in-engine footage, but there seems to be a lack of actual gameplay. Players will probably do the same actions as in the multiplayer game modes, but in a more controlled environment. This means you’ll be running and gunning on foot, piloting spaceships and more.

Several locations for the campaign have also been revealed in the trailer. There will be a number of familiar places to play, including Theed, Endor and Takodana. The last planet is the home of Maz Kanata, who makes a brief appearance in the trailer as well.

Speaking of recognizable faces, the only big-name Star Wars characters to make it into the trailer are Luke Skywalker and a hologram of Leia. Seeing as how this takes place after Return of the Jedi, there will not be any Darth Vader or Emperor Palpatine, but a First Order-era Finn or Kylo Ren might make sense to pop up at some point.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 releases for PS4, Xbox One and PC on Nov. 17.

So what do you think? Are you excited to play the story mode in Star Wars Battlefront 2? Will you wait to see what happens with the whole loot box situation first? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
