Stan Lee Asked To Pick Sides In 'Captain America: Civil War’ And Keeps It 100 [VIDEO]

Marvel’s marketing push for Captain America: Civil War centers on picking sides. #TeamCap or #TeamIronMan? That is the question. Not only is it tearing the Avengers apart, but it’s pitting Marvel fanboys (and girls) against each other. Even random “strangers” on the street are torn, like the blithe old guy in Civil War’s latest promotional teaser. His name is Stan Lee, and he could care less who wins this stupid comic book war. Stan Lee is all about his cameos, and he would like for you to speak with his agent.

After a brief exhibit of varying Twitter opinions, we find Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans debating over the superiority of Iron Man or Captain America. Iron Man launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Downey Jr. says. Captain America was Marvel’s first-ever character on screen, says Evans. They decide to let a passerby decide the matter once and for all. For some inexplicable reason, Downey Jr. and Evans do not realize the stranger is the godfather of comic books, the man who built Marvel -- Stan Lee. So, Mr. Stan Lee, whose side are you on?

Damn, Stan Lee just kept it a hunnit. As any casual Marvel fan can tell you, Stan Lee has cameoed in 28 Marvel movies. He may be 93, but Lee doesn’t plan on retiring from the acting game anytime soon. Expect him to pop up in Captain America: Civil War.

Here’s a refresher of the synopsis in case you forgot why these guys are fighting each other in the first place: Political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability when the actions of the Avengers lead to collateral damage. The new status quo deeply divides members of the team. Captain America (Chris Evans) believes superheroes should remain free to defend humanity without government interference. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) sharply disagrees and supports oversight. As the debate escalates into an all-out feud, Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) must pick a side.

Captain America: Civil War arrives in theaters May 6.
