Middle-earth: Shadow of War
Middle-earth: Shadow of War WB / Monolith

A new trailer for Middle-earth: Shadow of War provides a better look at the non-orc enemies we’ll encounter in the upcoming sequel to Shadow of Mordor. The trailer offers an early look at several creatures that didn’t appear in Monolith’s first Middle-earth adventure, some of which can apparently be converted by Talion (for how long, we don’t know). And it looks like Shadow of War might even help us get our kaiju battle fix when it hits PC and consoles this fall.

The orcs players battle across Mordor will form the backbone of Shadow of War’s campaign, from an adversarial standpoint, but they aren’t the only villains we’ll face in the next chapter of Talion’s story. Everything from spiders to balrogs can be seen in the “Monster of Mordor” trailer, which debuted on Monday, and it looks like some are just as susceptible to branding as the orcs and their leaders. We don’t want to get too specific, because some really cool mechanics get shown here for (to our knowledge) the first time, and there will undoubtedly be some who’d rather be surprised on launch day. But if you don’t mind a few spoilers, we definitely recommend watching the latest Shadow of War trailer to hit YouTube.

In addition to the new trailer, Microsoft announced a $349 Middle-earth: Shadow of War Xbox One S bundle that hits stores alongside the game. Buyers will receive a white Xbox One S (no decals or special decor), a copy of Shadow of War (w/ Legendary Champions War Party and Epic Sword of Dominion DLC), one month of Xbox Game Pass and a 14-day trial of Xbox Live.

For a closer look at Middle-earth: Shadow of War, take a few minutes to watch the “Monsters of Mordor” trailer that debuted on Monday. Then head down to the comments section and let us know if you’re looking forward to playing Shadow of War when the game debuts in October.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War is in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game debuts on Oct. 10.

Shadow Of War Players Will Tell Better Stories Than The Game
And the next chapter of Talion and Celebrimbor’s story was pretty underwhelming. But the stories people tell about their Nemesis encounters, which are more chaotic than ever before, will undoubtedly shape public opinion more than any criticism Shadow of War garners along the way.
  • Nemesis system does an even better job of letting players witness and tell unique, action-driven stories
  • Most of the narrative content is just plain boring
