‘Runescape Old School’: 2007scape Update Adds New Continent, Jagex Ruins It With Memes Jagex

A brand new continent has been added to Runescape Old School, the server Jagex keeps operational for those players pining for some corn-fed Runescape nostalgia from their tween years. Zeah, the name of the new continent, currently only has one city called Great Kourend situated on itself, but Jagex is planning on releasing more content and additions in further updates.

To reach Zeah and Great Kourend, you’ll want to talk to Veos in Port Sarim to arrange passage to the new continent.

Great Kourend has five houses splitting the city’s territory between them, and it’ll be up to the individual Runescape player to gauge the competing houses and decide which one they should declare their allegiances to.

Shayzien, the house of law and order for Great Kourend, will require the Runescape player to aid them in helping defend the city from those who seek to exploit the city’s defenses, but in return will offer Runescape players new sets of armor and quests to vanquish the organized crime factions currently infesting Great Kourend.

Piscarilius, the house of thieving and fishing, is that organized crime faction. Notorious for being the root of Great Kourend’s theft problem, earning favor with this house will net the unscrupulous Runescape player the ability to fish for Anglerfish, a new food which will heal you depending on your HP level – 99 HP will see a healing rate of 22 – and can be used to heal above a Runescape player’s maximum HP.

Lovakengj, the house of mining and smithing, are the arms dealers of Great Kourend. Those who earn favor with this house by helping collect resources for blast mining and armor creation will unlock the blast mining minigame, which allow Runescape players to create dynamite and use it to blast ore from within hard rock.

Arceuus, the house of prayer and runecrafting, is willing to trade their knowledge of crafting blood and soul runes to any Runescape player that helps the house expand their knowledge of dark knowledge by mining rune essence blocks and expanding the necromancy spell book.

Hosidius, the house of cooking and farming, is in need of assistance from Runescape players willing to aid them in farm production to organize food for hungry soldiers. In exchange, Runescape players who help the Hosidius house will have access to the two kitchens situated in Great Kourend, which happen to reduce the chance of burning food by 5-percent, and the Tithe minigame, which will allow players to level up their farming skills quickly.

The update isn’t without its detractors. As RockPaperShotgun points out, the /r/2007scape subreddit is currently in turmoil, or as RockPaperShotgun calls it, full out civil war.

Most of the Runescape players’ issues come with Jagex’s additions of memes and easter eggs in the new content, which ruin the “immersive lore,” and makes Runescape Old School like a “mediocre private server.”

On the other hand, as one reddit user points out, “This is a 100% serious game. They should have everything to be exacted (sic) to perfect English! how dare they have fun. I'm leaving.”
