‘Resident Evil 7’: Almost 90,000 Brave Souls Play Game On PlayStation VR

You done pissed off Mr. Baker now fool! Capcom

We don’t know how they do it, but almost 90,000 people have played Resident Evil 7 biohazard on PlayStation VR.

The first hour of Resident Evil 7 is rough on your psyche. You’re exploring the Baker’s residential property for your wife Mia, and all of a sudden things are coming at you and you’re dying because your reaction time is too damn slow. We can only imagine the added creepiness factor of playing the game in VR.

ResidentEvil.net reports 88,912 users worldwide are playing Resident Evil 7 on the PlayStation VR. Currently there are 938,267 players worldwide experiencing Capcom’s latest Resident Evil title. This means roughly 10 percent of Resident Evil 7 players are embracing the PlayStation VR.

We’re not quite there yet. We wanted our first playthrough of Resident Evil 7 to be just on the PS4 so we can get a better feel for the game in VR. We’re totally not scared of playing the game by ourselves on the PlayStation VR. We’re also not paranoid after seeing Black Mirror Season 3 episode 2, “PlayTest,” where the guy dies after experiencing an intense VR session.

Yup, that’s our story and we’re sticking to it.

If you’re one of the 90,000 Resident Evil 7 players lucky enough to own the PlayStation VR, there’s a way to enhance your experience through scent. Yes, you read that correctly. Capcom created, or at least licensed, a Resident Evil 7 4D candle to add another dimension to the game’s VR experience.

The “horror-scented,” “4D” candle will burn for about 25 hours and probably smells like rotting flesh. Or burning wood. We really don’t know what it smells like because using the PlayStation VR around a lit candle doesn’t seem like the best idea, especially if you live alone.

Personally, we’d enjoy a more soothing scent to help calm our nerves before stepping up for the 4D candle. We’ll leave that to the brave souls playing Resident Evil 7 in their homes. Resident Evil 7 biohazard is out now for the PS4, Xbox One, PC and PlayStation VR.
