Prison Architect Console Ports Get Escape Mode In 2018

It’s been a long time since we checked in with Prison Architect, the prison construction and management simulator from Introversion Software. But now some content that failed to make the jump to consoles (despite debuting in the PC version back in 2015) will finally come to PSN and Xbox Live in 2018. So now would be a good time to transform your toothbrush into a digging tool, Prison Architect fans.

Escape Mode, the game mode that asks players to escape from their own correctional facilities (or prisons designed by the PA community), is finally coming to consoles. Double Eleven says they’re currently working on their own version, which will probably ship with a slightly different feature set than the PC version. The studio isn’t ready to discuss specifics yet, so it’s going to be a while before we know what is/isn’t changing. But Double Eleven does say the new features will be developed specifically for console players. The team also says it’s “always listening” to community feedback, so now might be a good time to use their contact form or tweet at Double Eleven if there’s something specific you hope to see in the console version of Escape Mode.

Unlike the PC version, Escape Mode will be released as paid DLC on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Double Eleven hasn’t announced a price yet, and presumably won’t until they’re a bit closer to release, but the studio did at least provide a rough timeline for the expansion. Barring any major setbacks, Double Eleven expects to release the next Prison Architect expansion sometime next summer, giving the team six to nine months -- depending on whether they’re aiming for the beginning or end of the season -- to finish its own take on Escape Mode.

Prison Architect is available for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
