The next Battle Season for Pokémon Sun and Moon has just been announced and will allow the entire National PokeDex to be used in online battling.

Pokémon from X and Y and Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will be eligible for battle teams looking to compete in Sun and Moon’s Battle Season 2, which would mean Pokémon Bank will need to be updated to allow the transfer to happen.

Battle Season 2 in Pokémon Sun and Moon runs from Jan. 17 to March 19 and sets restrictions for battle teams looking to participate. Each battle team will be allowed only one Legendary/Mythical Pokémon on their team; however, the Tapus and the Ultra Beasts have no restrictions. This change will also take into effect in Sun and Moon’s Battle Spot for Single, Double and Rating Battles.

With no word from The Pokémon Company or Nintendo as to when Pokémon Bank will be updated to allow Gen 6 Pokémon (and Gen 1 Pokémon) to be transferred to Alola, the timing of Battle Season 2 allows for some interesting speculation.

If Battle Season 2 begins on Jan. 17, it is possible the Pokémon Bank will be updated in time for the upcoming competition period. However, the March 19 end date does give Game Freak plenty of time to get the Pokémon Bank up and running by the end of January.

The updated Pokémon Bank will allow trainers to transfer Pokémon from X and Y or ORAS to Sun and Moon, but not the other way around. It will also allow Pokémon from the Red, Blue and Yellow virtual console games to be transferred, but it is still unclear how that will work.
So when do you think the Pokémon Bank will be updated? Are you planning to participate in Battle Season 2 in Pokémon Sun and Moon? Let us know in the comments section below.
