I think the people working on the Pokedex entries for Pokémon Sun and Moon have some serious issues. In past games, the Pokedex was a source for information, where you could go to learn some cool facts about your favorite Pokémon. In the newest games, they decided to sidestep the cute stuff and go straight for the horror. Some of these Pokedex entries are creepy, weird, malicious and a ton of other words I can’t use without swearing.

After looking through every Pokedex entry in Pokémon Sun and Moon , I picked the five that made me the most uncomfortable. Be warned, there are some spoilers in #2.

I know it's from Pokken tournament, but if that doesn't show you how scary Gengar is, nothing will.

5. Gengar

“Should you feel yourself attacked by a sudden chill, it is evidence of an approaching Gengar. There is no escaping it. Give up.”

Did you feel that? That’s a Gengar coming to reap your eternal soul. I have no idea why anyone would be so depressing in a children’s game. Ghost type Pokémon usually tend to be creepier -- Yamask is the soul of a dead guy -- but this takes it a whole new level. All I know, is that I’m happy that the only ghosts in the real world are in my head or in Japan.

4. Mimikyu

“Its actual appearance is unknown. A scholar who saw what was under its rag was overwhelmed by terror and died from the shock.”

If Gengar doesn't kill you, Mimikyu will finish the job. Just one look at what’s under that handkerchief will stop your heart from beating. In a world where gods can be caught in tiny man-made prisons, faux Pikachu will kill you without a thought. A scholar died from looking at it, but an 11-year-old on a journey can stare at it face to face and catch it in a Pokeball. Sometimes the world of Pokémon makes zero sense.

3. Bruxish

It stuns its prey with psychokinesis and then grinds them to mush with its strong teeth. Even Shellder’s shell is no match for it.”

Bruxish might be less terrifying than a ghost that will stop your heart, but that dosen’t make this any less disturbing. Every new generation, the Pokedex is starting to look more like Charles Darwin’s Origin Of Species. For years, there was no concrete evidence that Pokémon ate other Pokémon to survive. Now we know that not only do they eat each other, they turn each other to mush. Now I want to know if a Bruxish can eat a Cloyster.

2. Toxapex

“Toxapex crawls along the ocean floor on its 12 legs. It leaves a trail of Corsola bits scattered in its wake.”

This was the first Pokedex entry that made me do a double take. At the ( Spoilers) Aether Corporation, we find out that they take care of Corsola because Toxapex loves to eat them. The world of Pokémon now has a sustainable ecosystem, filled with survival of the fittest mentality and conservation. Sometimes Pokémon Sun and Moon feels less like a game and more like a theological course on evolution.

1. Palossand

“Possessed people controlled by this Pokémon transformed its sand mound into a castle. As it evolved, its power to curse grew ever stronger.”

“Buried beneath the castle are masses of dried-up bones from those whose vitality it has drained.”

Palossand is, without a doubt, the most messed up Pokémon in Alola. Bruxish only eats shellfish and Mimikyu might kill you if you look under its skirt, but Palossand will turn you into a slave. It makes others build it up and then sucks the life straight out of them, like a mud vampire. Before Sun and Moon came out, I would not have assumed that Palossand would be the creepiest Pokémon in the region, maybe even the whole Pokémon universe. Just imagine your kid going to the beach and never returning, because it has to build sand castles for the rest of its existence. The person who wrote that must have some seriously bad nightmares.
