The Planet of the Apes prequels are finally getting their first proper video game tie-in, courtesy of a new studio backed by a familiar face. The studio behind the project isn’t saying much about its first game. But we do have a handful of details about the story, a bit of gameplay, and even a launch window for Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier.

Last Frontier is the debut offering from Imaginati, a new development studio published by The Imaginarium, a “performance capture studio” owned by actor Andy Serkis (Gollum). Serkis will also serve as executive producer for Last Frontier, which is set in the same universe and timeline as the Planet of the Apes prequels but introduces an entirely new roster of characters. A press release confirms the game will be set in the Rocky Mountains and transpires between the events shown in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes.

The structure of the game seems to fall somewhere between your typical Telltale adventure game, mostly conversations with sporadic gameplay, and a choose-your-own-adventure novel. Imaginati describes Last Frontier as a “narrative adventure” in a press release for the project, so anyone interested in the first new Planet of the Apes game since 2001 should be prepared to watch as much (if not more) of the game as they play. The game’s story will branch, based on the player’s decisions, and the studio says Planet of the Apes will have multiple endings.
