It’s been a long August, but Overwatch’s Summer Games event is finally coming to a close. If you haven’t picked up your BMX Reaper or weightlifter Zarya skins, you only have a few more days left before the clock runs out. Unlike Tracer running track and field, you won’t be able to turn back time to buy these loot boxes if you miss out.

Overwatch Summer Games Event will end on August 28 between 2 to 3 p.m. EST. Blizzard has been pretty good about keeping to a schedule, but don’t come after me with pitchforks if I’m off by an hour or two – Blizzard tends to do whatever they want.

If you haven’t been playing Overwatch a lot or just feel out of the loop, there are a few things you can do to maximize your free Loot Boxes:

  • If you haven’t won your first Lucio Ball game, now’s your last chance. The experimental soccer (sorry, I’m American) mode will be leaving servers when the event ends. Winning just one game will net you a free Summer Games Loot Box, though it definitely will not be filled with two blue and two grey items, making all that time you played irrelevant.

  • This is also the last chance to buy any of the cool cosmetic skins, like scuba diver Sombra or cricket Junkrat. Each one of the new skins costs 3,000 coins, while the returning skins from last year, like soccer Lucio, only cost 1,000. Know that if you don’t have the money to buy enough Loot Boxes to collect enough coins to buy these skins, you can always try waiting for next year. I’m sure they’ll go on sale again.

That’s not the only major change coming to Overwatch this week: the fifth season of competitive play is also ending. On August 28 at 8 p.m. EST, Overwatch’s Season 5 will come to a close. Blizzard doesn’t care if you made it to Platinum or not, when that clock finally counts down to zero, your fate will be sealed.

Finally, if you haven’t been keeping up on Overwatch news, you might have missed some huge changes that will be coming to the game for Season 6.

  • Overwatch Seasons are now going to be to be two months, instead of three.

  • To make up for the shorter seasons, earning and losing Competitive Points will be easier.

  • Control maps will be a best-of-three instead of a best-of-five.

  • Placement matches will “lead to more accurate” skill ratings. Meaning, that if you win all 10 of your games, Blizzard shouldn’t dump you in the middle of Bronze with 1000 SR.

  • Higher tier matches will be better, but queue times will definitely be longer.

  • This is still a work in progress, it isn’t guaranteed that ny of these changes will stick around for Season 7.

Are you ready for the Overwatch event and season to end or do you wish it could be one long, endless summer. Tell us in the comments.
