Nintendo made some major waves with its recent Nintendo Switch announcement. And while the new hybrid, home and handheld game console is versatile and delivers many interesting functions with its modular design, Nintendo confirmed in a recent interview with Famitsu the system will not feature Wii U disc or 3DS cartridge compatibility.

Sadly, it's also unclear how much internal storage is available in the Switch and whether it can download games digitally. Unfortunately, we still don't have all the details about Nintendo's latest and it looks like it will be a while until we do – Nintendo told Wall Street Journal technology reporter Takashi Mochizuki that new information on the console’s technical specification or games will not be announced until next year.

Instead, Nintendo will likely focus its short term promotion efforts on Pokémon Sun and Moon for the 3DS. Given the hybrid design philosophy behind the Nintendo Switch, many speculators also wondered whether the Switch could replace the 3DS as well. But according to a thread on reddit, the Switch will not and Nintendo will consider a separate 3DS successor announcement on a later date:
