With the Nintendo NX still a mystery, and the release date still unknown, it was surprising to see that Nintendo Europe has announced the grand prize for the Splatoon tournament at ESL this year will be the NX.

That’s right, each member of the winning Splatoon team at ESL will be awarded the mysterious console.

Check out the announcement from Nintendo of Europe below.

The dates of the Splatoon ESL finals were not announced, in case you were trying to extrapolate when the console will actually be released, but March 2017 was the release window given by Nintendo.

Many believe this announcement means that Splatoon will make it onto the NX, either as a sequel or a port from the Wii U version. While that could be the case, it would, admittedly, be a leap to come to that conclusion.

Details on the Nintendo NX are still unknown but there are plenty of rumors surrounding it. From the return to cartridges, to being a handheld/home console hybrid, the NX is the biggest mystery in the gaming industry.

The official NX reveal is supposed to happen before the end of the year and many in the industry believe it will happen at this year's Tokyo Game Show, which begins Sept. 15.

We have reached out to Nintendo of America to inquire if North America will have something similar and we will update as soon as we learn more.

In the meantime, let us know your thoughts on the winning Splatoon team at ESL winning NX consoles in the comments section below.
