New rumors suggest that Frederator Studios and Nintendo could be partnering up to develop a new TV show. This is nowhere near confirmed, but the rumor has come from Fred Seibert himself, the legendary creator of Frederator Studios and producer of cartoons such as The Fairly OddParents, Adventure Time and Bee and PuppyCat.

While on the Nick Animation Podcast, Seibert mentioned Frederator is working on a new show based on a video game series. The relevant clip can be heard at 31:52. Seibert’s direct quote is “We have a project now that we’re doing that needs to go unnamed, based on one of the most world-famous video games of the last 30 years that we’ve had in our shop for 12 years without being able to get it started.”

He continued, by saying the project has since picked up progress, but that’s where the conversation ends. “There were great characters and a great story, and eventually we got it going,” Seibert said. After Seibert finished, the podcast immediately transitioned to a new segment.

While this is such an open-ended quote that Seibert could mean just about anything, we do have a few clues. Looking at video games that are considered world-famous and also 30 years old, the big names on the scene are Nintendo games. Super Mario Bros. came out in 1985 and The Legend of Zelda and Kid Icarus were released in 1986, making them both 30 years or older now. Donkey Kong is even older, originally releasing in 1981 for arcades.

Looking outside of Nintendo, there’s the King’s Quest franchise that would be ripe for a cartoon. Heck, even Atari games like Pac-Man and Pitfall! could be included in the conversation. And never count out Shaq Fu. It’s not going to be Shaq Fu, but I can dream.

It’s even possible the game could be less than 30 years old. The quote simply says it is one of the most famous games of the last 30 years. What we do know for sure is whatever game is being hinted at, it definitely was released before 2004, since the cartoon has been in the works for 12 years.

Whatever it ends up being, it’s still exciting. Many video games have been turned into cartoons in the past, and most aren’t held in very high regard. Even today, the only game that really seems to have won an audience on TV are the Sonic cartoons. However, if Frederator and Fred Seibert are behind the project, that means it will be at least better than the cash-grab that was the Zelda cartoon.

So what do you think? Are you excited to see a video game cartoon from Frederator? What game do you think it will end up being? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
