Niantic continues to serve its faithful Pokémon Go players with new events that come to the game every month. Niantic's latest Pokémon Go event is Community Days, which encourages players to meet other trainers and go out and have fun together. There are special goodies you’ll be able to nab just for participating.

Pokémon Go Community Days starts Jan. 20 and invites players to find and catch rare special Pokémon that will only appear a few hours at a time (11 a.m. PT through 2 p.m. PT). Trainers will have to scurry around to find a Pikachu with an exclusive Surf move. Technically, yes, it’s a Surfing Pikachu, an anomaly that obviously wouldn’t happen with regular Pikachu. Lure Modules will last for three hours during this time, and players will be able to rack up bonus XP during the hunt.

If you’ve been playing Pokémon games since the days of Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition back on the original Game Boy Color, you probably remember Surfing Pikachu from the Pikachu’s Beach mini-game. You could put Pikachu out to catch some waves on a tiny surfboard and it was one of the most adorable things ever. Surfing Pikachu also got his own Pokémon card from the Pokémon Trading Card Game and made several appearances in various games in the Pokémon series as well. It’s a mainstay that people love to reference and undoubtedly a fan favorite.

The latest event from Niantic will surely keep fans hooked to the game. We don't know what other special Pokémon may appear in future events, but perhaps the Flying Pikachu, held up in the air with balloons, will also be available at some point. We can only hope so.
