Permanent console exclusives are increasingly rare in the modern era. Major releases tend to hit as many platforms as possible in an effort to recoup their staggering AAA budgets. But it sounds like that won’t be the case for Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom, despite recent rumors to the contrary in the European press.

IGN España claimed a digital version of Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom would hit Xbox Live at some point after the game’s January 2018 debut. The story was a follow-up to prior rumors, which began on NeoGAF, after Amazon.es listed a download-only version of NNK2 for Xbox One. IGN claimed U.K. gamers would be the only ones who had the option of purchasing a physical copy of the Xbox One port. Now Bandai Namco has disputed those claims, and it’s not because they have larger plans for an Xbox One port than have been alleged.

According to a new Gematsu tweet, Bandai Namco has squarely denied allegations that Level-5 (or any other Bandai Namco team) is currently working on an Xbox One port of NNK2. The denial doesn’t outright shoot down the possibility of an eventual release on Microsoft’s latest hardware. Instead, the publisher says it is only working on the PS4 and PC releases at this time. After all, “we’re only working on these versions right now” isn’t the same as “we’re never releasing Ni No Kuni 2 on Xbox One.” So, technically, there’s still a glimmer of hope for the Microsoft crowd. There’s just nothing on the horizon to get excited about.
