The star of the next Assassin’s Creed game has leaked, thanks to a t-shirt found at a GameStop. Seriously, we’re getting video game news from clothing these days. Not only that, a trailer has been leaked, proving the next game is Assassin’s Creed Origins.

Is this the first look at the latest Assassin's Creed protagonist?

As seen in the photo above, shared by the facebook group Le Verità dell'Animus, we see an assassin seemingly named Ba Yek. There are also Egyptian hieroglyphics around the character and the Assassin’s Creed logo down in the bottom corner.

This lines up with previous rumors that the next Assassin’s Creed game will be set in Egypt. According to leakers, the next game will be called Assassin’s Creed Origins and focus on the earliest guild of assassins.

An interesting thing to note is that these previous rumors indicated there will be two protagonists in Assassin’s Creed Origins , a man and a woman. If this shirt is correct, Ba Yek seems like he will be the male lead in the game. So far there have been no leaks, clothing or otherwise, indicating if there will be a female protagonist yet, and if there is one, who she will be.

A clip from a trailer has also just sprouted up online. While this footage looks like it was recorded on cell phone, it certainly seems legit. This video doesn’t provide much information, but does confirm the name Assassin’s Creed Origins and a setting of Thebes, Egypt in 1354 BC.

For reference, this puts the game right around the time of Amenhotep III’s reign coming to an end and the rise of his son, Akhenaten. According to Wikipedia, Akhenaten’s reign involved Thebes falling on “evil times” with the capitol getting moved to a new city, the worship of Amun became proscribed and the city was abandoned by the courts. Things became better once Akhenaten’s son rose to power. Akhenaten’s son is Tutankhamun, better known as King Tut.

Knowing this, how much do you want to bet Assassin’s Creed Origins revolves around the player fighting back against the reign of Akhenaten while trying to get Tutankhamun into power? We’ve seen time and again Assassin’s Creed protagonists befriending famous historical figures like Leonardo Da Vinci, Ben Franklin and Charles Dickens. Why not keep it up with the most famous name to come from ancient Egypt?

Also included in the clip are two men talking about something that sounds important. While most of it sounds like made-up techno mumbo jumbo, there is mention of how the two need to reroute power to the machines and how “new assassins” are coming. A curious line sounds like it goes “just drop them in the cloud and they’ll find them.” This could point towards the earlier rumor that mentioned time jumps from all over the world, including WWII-era France and an Asian setting. Maybe Assassin’s Creed Origins will include some present-day content that doesn’t seem like a complete waste of everyone’s time and attention, or at least not take place entirely in Egypt.

So what do you think? Are you excited to know more about Ba Yek and the ancient Egyptian assassins? Will you hold off on boarding the hype train until you know more about the game from Ubisoft? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
