A pair of new Quake Champions trailers are out this week, days before the first participants gain access to the QC closed beta, with more than two minutes of new footage and a closer look at the next member of the Quake Champions roster, Slash.

Last year, id Software Creative Director Tim Willits told iDigitalTimes that getting traditional Quake fans to understand that Champions isn’t a MOBA proved to be a bigger challenge than the studio expected. But something tells us that won’t be much of any issue anymore, even if you aren’t one of the lucky folks who got to play Quake Champions at PAX East 2017, because a new raw gameplay trailer is now online. The footage was published on Tuesday, two days before the Quake Champions closed beta, and makes it clear that this is still do the Quake we all remember. The action is still fast-paced, the weapons are familiar and the tone is every bit as juvenile as it was when the franchise debuted in 1996. There’s just something extra -- the aforementioned active and passive skills -- this time around.

A day later, id Software would unveil the spotlight trailer for Slash, the next confirmed member of the Quake Champions roster. The roller-skating combatant is quite different from the fighters we’ve met thus far, emphasizing speed and trap-setting above the traditional reflex-oriented gameplay that Quake is known for. Slash’s Plasma Trail ability allows her to attack anyone in close pursuit, or dash through an encounter with deadly force, and her skates allow her to crouch without taking as big of a cut (if any) to her forward momentum.

For a closer look at Quake Champions , take a few minutes to watch the Slash spotlight and Raw Gameplay trailers released this week. Then head down to the comments section and let us know if you’re hoping to participate in the Quake Champions closed beta.

Quake Champions is in development for PC.
