Just a few short months ago, Jurassic World held the distinction of being one of the biggest movies of all time. Star Wars: The Force Awakens may have snatched the crown, but the legacy of the franchise has certainly been revitalized. Of course, new dino expert Chris Pratt has the first Jurassic Park film to thank for that. The 1993 classic made dinosaurs terrifyingly relevant for an entire generation. But how would the studio market a film like that in 2016? A new “modern trailer” for Jurassic Park might give you a pretty good idea.

The fan-made trailer uses some fresh editing to give a modern take on the movie, and boy does it work. The art of cutting a trailer has changed over the past 23 years, but the same terrifying tone of the original remains. Instead of relying on exposition and narration, the new Jurassic Park trailer utilizes long takes and suspense. Instead, the sweeping music and visuals do the talking, and the result is utterly thrilling. Take a look at the modern Jurassic Park trailer below:

The original trailer for Jurassic Park is below, and if you compare the two, it’s clear that there’s a major contrast. The newer trailer honestly does a better job of creating intrigue, making it much more useful for a generation that suffers a bit from low attention spans. While the old Jurassic Park trailer was clearly effective (the movie made a lot of money!), it definitely feels dated.

Universal (the Jurassic franchise’s studio) should pay whoever made this trailer, because watching the video now makes this writer excited by the prospect of more dinosaurs. Jurassic World 2 is arriving in a couple years, and if it can capitalize on the nostalgia that trailers like the above create, it’s bound to contend for even more box office records.

If you’d like to see how the new vs. old holds up, take a look at the original Jurassic Park trailer below, and sit tight for Jurassic World 2, which arrives on June 22, 2018.
