I swear this isn’t an April Fool’s joke: Netflix has picked up the Final Fantasy series’ first on-screen foray, a J-Drama titled Final Fantasy 14: Daddy of Light.

Final Fantasy 14: Daddy of Light is a wholesome family drama about a father and son who bond over Final Fantasy 14 , not some kind of healslut exposé, and Square Enix has provided a preview of the show below:

According to the show’s official Twitter account, international viewers can watch Final Fantasy 14: Daddy of Light starting this fall.

An update on the official website states that Final Fantasy 14: Daddy of Light airs in Japan on MBS and TBS starting April 16; it will be available on Japanese Netflix starting April 20 as well.

The drama coincides with Final Fantasy ’s 30th anniversary and is inspired by a true story about a father and son whose relationship changes due to their encounters in Final Fantasy 14 . The show is a mix of in-game and live-action footage and stars Yudai Chiba and Ren Oosugi.

Final Fantasy 14: Daddy of Light is a classic father-son story with a Square-Enixified twist: the son gives his dad a copy of Final Fantasy 14 for PS4 and joins him online, but without telling his dad who he is. While helping his dad on FInal Fantasy 14 , the son writes a blog about his experience of reconnecting with his pops. It promises to be heartwarming as anything, so keep an eye out if that’s what you’re into.
