NBA 2K18 has a brand new patch just days after the release of the game’s seventh major update. Patch 1.08 weighs a hefty 5GB on PS4 and is just 66MB on Xbox One. Official patch notes have not been posted, but a message from reddit moderator yyy2k provides some additional clarity.

According to contacts inside 2K, update 1.08 is largely meant to fix a bug where MyPlayer characters could appear shirtless while walking around the Neighborhood. The patch has always been planned for release, and it has nothing to do with any sort of emergency situation.

This is something interesting to make note of considering the issues that have just recently cropped up with 2K18’s MyTeam mode. Over the past handful of hours players have been getting randomly ejected from the online suite for no reason whatsoever. The reddit source says these problems are entirely server-related and have nothing to do with this unexpected patch. Those frustrations will likely be remedied over the next few hours if they haven’t been already.

We’ll do our best to update this article with official patch notes if they ever appear, but, between holiday preparations and the apparently small nature of the changes, that may never happen.

For those who missed the memo on the recent happenings of NBA 2K18, the game’s previous patch started going live Tuesday evening and was largely focused on providing in-game stability and minor tweaks to various modes. Its standout feature was the brand new t-shirt kiosk that aimed to curb user dissatisfaction with the old custom clothes system. Under the new provisions, the goal is to return any spent VC if a custom shirt listing is ever removed for copyright reasons. It’s possible the new shirtless fix couldn’t be added to that patch due to hitches in the certification process. Whatever the case may be, it’s clear Visual Concepts’ assignment prior to the holidays was to work on small-scale code cleanup.

The major point to take home is that, while previous NBA 2K18 patches have included dozens of fixes and significant improvements, Patch 8 doesn't fit that bill.

NBA 2K18 is available now on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Switch and PC. The 1.08 update will be slowly dispersed across applicable platforms.

NBA 2K18 PS4 Review - Great Basketball With A Price
The action is fun and fluid, but the VC grind gets its grubby hands on everything and takes the shine off that noteworthy achievement.
  • Great basketball mechanics
  • Easy for new players to learn
  • MyGM's story content is a great starting point for the future.
  • The Neighborhood social hub feels empty and pointless
  • Microtransactions ruin what would otherwise be a fun experience
  • MyCareer story is a bit dull
