Ever since the end of the Naruto manga, fans of the series have wondered what will creator Masashi Kishimoto’s next adventure will be.

The legendary creator teased a science-fiction manga last year, but there have not been any new updates since then, until a new interview in the latest Shonen Jump Giga (formerly Shonen Jump Next!).

According to Anime News Network, Kishimoto confirmed he’s already planning his next project, and research for it has already been done. In the interview, Kishimoto claims he can announce the project this year, but there is no definite date. The format of the new manga was not revealed either.

There’s not a lot to go by from this interview, but if Kishimoto believes he can announce it this year, fans should definitely keep their eyes peeled.

Kishimoto made his first appearance outside of Japan at last year’s New York Comic-Con, where he spoke to a packed house about his career and the long journey to finishing up Naruto . He was also present at the world premiere of the Boruto movie where Naruto voice actor Yuko Senpei teased that she wished the Naruto movies would continue but Kishimoto laughed saying he wanted to finally rest.

Currently, a Boruto spin-off manga has debuted in Shonen Jump as a monthly offering that continues the story of the Naruto universe with the next generation of ninja. It is handled by Mikie Ikemoto with Kishimoto overseeing the plot.

We will update as soon as we learn more about Kishimoto’s next manga.

In the meantime, let us know what you want to see from Kishimoto’s next story in the comments section below.
