Are 'Pokemon Diamond and Pearl' remakes coming? Pokemon Company

It seems that The Pokémon Company is still intent on bringing older generation games to current consoles.

In an interview with IGN, Pokémon Series producer Junichi Masuda talked about bringing past Pokémon games back and how today’s technology can allow for it.

“I think the remakes, like Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, is still an approach we’re interested in,” Masuda said. “With the Virtual Console releases of the original games, specifically there had never been a way to bring those Pokémon over to the latest generation. It had always been that you couldn’t get those Pokémon out.”

Apps like Pokémon Bank and Pokémon Transporter have allowed for Pokémon from older games to be transferred to the latest games. The recent release of Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow for the Virtual Console will allow for transfer to Pokémon Sun and Moon in 2017.

When Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen released in 2004, bringing the original Generation 1 games to the current handheld console (at the time), it changed the schedule for Pokémon games, with remakes released between new generations.

Not only has The Pokémon Company released the Gen 1 remakes, but they have since released Gen 2 and Gen 3 remakes in recent years, with Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire being the most current coming out in 2014.

With the release of Sun and Moon, the next title for the Pokémon series may be the long-awaited Diamond and Pearl remakes.

Interestingly, the Pokémon Transporter only works for Black and White , the generation after Diamond and Pearl , making the Gen 4 games prime for an update.

Pokémon Sun and Moon releases Nov. 18 and news on the next game won’t come till long after its release. In the meantime, we want to know your thoughts on The Pokémon Company’s insistence on bringing remakes of older games to current consoles in the comments section below.
