Monster Hunter: World x Horizon Zero Dawn
Monster Hunter: World x Horizon Zero Dawn Capcom

The next phase of the Monster Hunter: World and Horizon Zero Dawn crossover promotion begins later this month. But Capcom still isn’t giving fans much time to earn the Aloy-inspired rewards, and the second HZD quest of the month has an even higher barrier to entry (and shorter timer) than Monster Hunter: World’s previous special event.

Details on “The Proving” suggest the community will struggle more with the second half of the MHW x HZD promotion. Instead of grinding out a few Barno kills in the Arena, like we did to reskin our Palicoes, players must confront a fire-breathing Anjanath. It’s far from the most challenging fight in MHW. But the Anjanath is no slouch, either. The task will be relatively simple if you can find a party -- and there should be plenty of action in the SOS section during event week -- and should at least be doable if you’re hunting alone. You will need to reach Hunter Rank 11 (or higher) to access the quest. And Capcom says anyone who completes The Proving before March 5 gets to craft Aloy’s bow and a set of armor that makes your hunter look like the Horizon Zero Dawn protagonist.

The next Horizon Zero Dawn event isn’t the only reason for celebration this month. Capcom also revealed a new sales record for its latest action RPG. The company says Monster Hunter: World has become the fastest selling game in Capcom’s history, shipping more than 6 million copies during its first two weeks on retail shelves. By comparison, the previous internal record holder (Resident Evil 7) took more than seven months to ship 4 million units. So it’s safe to say this isn’t just the biggest Capcom release in years, it’s the biggest Monster Hunter release ever. The company is recognizing the accomplishment by rewarding MHW players with another round of free in-game items, similar to the 5 million item bonus pack released last week.

Monster Hunter: World is available on PS4 and Xbox One. A PC port debuts this fall.
