Italian developer Milestone has announced new Supercross racing game featuring the Monster Energy Cup and its real-world contenders. Player. One had the opportunity to give Monster Energy Supercross - The Video Game a try, and it plays like a hybrid between a sim and an arcade racer.

Monster Energy Supercross will feature authentic bikes, tracks and racers across both the 250SX and 450SX classes. Racers include Chad Reed, Ken Roczen, Ryan Dungey and more. There will be both online and offline play, with a career mode and even a track editor to create your own custom races.

Seeing as how the last motocross game I put time into was Motocross Madness , it felt nice to virtually get back in the saddle. What’s nice about Monster Energy Supercross is the gameplay is more advanced than arcade-style games like Motocross Madness, but not complicated enough to be a full-on sim like hardcore racing games. The balance can even be adjusted by turning a few features on or off.

Those features include not only controlling the bike, but also controlling the rider. Shifting the rider’s weight back or forth can make tough sections of the course much easier. You might even end up crashing on jumps or turns if you find yourself out of position. This, along with a manual transmission, can be turned on or off depending on how in-depth you want your racing experience to be.

Racing with the basic experience of having control over the rider and an automatic bike, courses were fun and challenging. You almost never want to go max speed, because sharp corners and jumps are just ahead no matter where you are on the course. Thankfully, there is a rewind feature (similar to the Forza franchise) if you find yourself making any major mistakes.

Unfortunately, I only had the opportunity to do a handful of races against AI opponents. One of the more exciting features for me is the track creator, so it will be interesting to see how that works. However, knowing the general creativity of any gaming group, it’s very likely these creation tools will be used for some amazing tracks to download and race on.

Monster Energy Supercross is scheduled to release on Feb. 13, 2018 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. A Switch version is planned to launch after that, and versions for iOS and Android devices are also in the works with a February 2018 release window.

So what do you think? Are you excited to see Monster Energy Supercross? Will you be checking it out when it releases in February? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
