Metroid Prime: Federation Force confused many Metroid fans at this past E3, so Nintendo is now working to clarify what this new game is. Their first task is explaining where Metroid’s star, Samus Aran, is and why she isn’t the main character.

In Federation Force, players take on the role of a Federation Force soldier. These troops, working for the Galactic Federation, have been tasked with going out into the galaxy to combat Space Pirates.

This goal is made much easier thanks to the development of advanced mech suits, similar to the suit Samus wears. The big difference is that the Federation Force soldiers fight in a group, and can customize their weapon loadouts to fill specific roles.

Like many other games, Metroid Prime: Federation Force will feature familiar roles such as a medic, a heavy weapons expert, a soldier and more. Teams will get to decide their loadouts together before all setting out on a mission, ensuring they are best equipped for what lies ahead. If one player takes more repair capsules than the others, that player had better be a good medic.

No official release date has been confirmed for Metroid Prime: Federation Force as of yet. We do know that the game is expected to release some time in late spring of 2016, though. It seems, based on what was said in the Nintendo Direct, that Federation Force will be exclusive to the New 3DS, thanks to the upgraded handheld’s C-stick. However, based on the box artwork, that doesn't seem to be the case.

So what do you think? Are you interested in exploring more of the Metroid universe in Metroid Prime: Federation Force? Do you wish Nintendo would just make a more traditional new Metroid game? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
