Metro Exodus, the latest entry in the Metro franchise, will benefit from the increased power of the Xbox One X. This information comes from an interview 4A Games Executive Producer Jonathan Bloch gave to Official Xbox Magazine UK, by way of WCCF Tech.

Metro Exodus first made an appearance at Microsoft’s E3 press event with the impressive trailer that can be watched above. Metro games have a reputation for impressive visuals already, and it’s even more noteworthy that this trailer was captured in-engine.

“The power of the Xbox One X will allow to ensure the game looks amazing. The trailer was recorded in-engine from a gameplay sequence players will find later on in the game,” Bloch told Official Xbox Magazine UK. “We removed things like HUD, and Quick Time Events prompts, choreographed the playthrough and music to fit the needs of the trailer, but the game looks like what you see.”

Little is known about the story of Metro Exodus; however, we do have confirmation from the game’s Steam page that protagonist Artyom will return once again. It will be his job to lead a small group of Spartan Rangers out of the Metro on a heavily modified steam train named the Aurora to search for a new place to live.

This means the majority of gameplay will likely take place above ground in the Russian wilderness instead of below it. To embrace this, Metro Exodus will have “huge, non-linear levels” as well as a day/night cycle and dynamic weather. This is a substantial departure from previous games, where players were stuck in subway tunnels and cramped sewers.

Player choices will also prove integral to the Metro Exodus story, with the Steam page already hinting that one or more of your friends will die along the way. “Your decisions have consequence in a gripping storyline that offers massive re-playability,” the listing reads.

No release date has been mentioned for Metro Exodus outside of 2018. The game will release on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
