'Mass Effect: Andromeda' Story: No Season Pass Means Paid DLC Incoming

In a surprising move for an EA game, Mass Effect: Andromeda will NOT have a Season Pass. This news has been confirmed on Twitter by BioWare general manager Aaryn Flynn.

When asked by a fan if there is going to be a season pass for Andromeda, Flynn responded with a simple “Nope.” When asked a follow-up about DLC, Flynn said that there will be more shared on that later.

While this is somewhat surprising, seeing as how EA seems to shove season passes and DLC into everything they touch, it isn’t unprecedented. Looking at the most recent BioWare game, for example, Dragon Age: Inquisition also didn’t feature a season pass, but still offered paid story DLC. While not made by BioWare, Titanfall 2 also managed to release without a season pass.

So what does this mean for Mass Effect: Andromeda? It likely means things are going to be the same as they’ve always been for BioWare. Mass Effect: Andromeda will release, and later, a few story DLC packs will be released for it as well. There will probably also be free multiplayer updates released along the way.

What we don’t know is if we’ll have a glimpse at BioWare’s DLC plans until before or after launch. From the second tweet above, BioWare is planning on releasing more information about DLC soon, but we aren’t sure if the news will come before March 21 or not.

So what do you think? Are you happy to see more games without season passes? Would you like to have had the option of getting all future DLC packs for one price? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
